IMPORTANT: Development Under Way
If you’ve been following this project, you may be wondering why there’s not been any updates to the app recently. The reason is, this feature is currently under development and it’s proving to be a much bigger task than initially anticipated! Good progress is being made but unfortunately while I’m developing this, I don’t have the time to look at any other new features. This is a big piece of work but will be well worth it in the end as it will also future proof the app against future cancel culture tactics.
Add Support for MORE Websites
Why can’t certain websites be accessed?
Generally speaking it seems to one of two things…
- Cloudflare protection: Cloudflare is a popular service for websites to utilise, they offer a feature which checks the page is being accessed by a real browser. This is used to to stop DDoS attacks but it’s very strict and can stop perfectly innocent apps (such as feedit and other RSS readers) from accessing the site.
What would the fix be?
I have a few ideas floating around and a very basic proof of concept test which appears to be working. To the end user, nothing would change – feedit would work in exactly the same way as it does now. In the background there would be some potentially code breaking changes!
This change would impact a lot of the existing code and it could break what we currently have working so full testing would be required before rolling this out. If you’d like to be a tester, get in touch via the contact form stating the platform you’re using and I’ll get you added to the list.
